Viviane Herzog (b. 1990) is a site-specific artist exploring human relations through ritualised spatial interventions. Her work investigates the subtle dynamics of connection, interdependence, and ambiguity, creating participatory and immersive experiences in public, semi-public, and architectural spaces.
Originally a writer and editor focused on personal life stories, Viviane gained deep insight into human relationships, which she has since transformed into her artistic practice. Her background in Art Education and Mediation (Kunstvermittlung) informs her approach, enabling her to design situations where presence, attention, and encounter become part of the artwork.
Her earlier projects—from participatory letter-writing (Letters on Life) to site-specific installations like Never Foreverand Woven Together—explored the relational and ritualised potential of human interaction, laying the foundation for her current focus on ritualised spatial interventions.
Viviane’s paintings and installations, often using paper, textiles, and ephemeral materials, respond to life’s ambiguity and the complexity of human relationships, transforming everyday spaces into sites of reflection, encounter, and social resonance.
Since starting her artistic career in Cape Town, South Africa, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions and presented her first solo show in Basel, Switzerland, in 2025, combining installation, participatory art, painting, and printmaking.
Building on these experiences, her work now continues to explore how ritualised interventions in public and architectural spaces can shape human relations and collective presence.
